New wheelset and spoke noise
Last year I had a set of lightweight wheels built using Stan Alpha 240 rims, and some tune hub copies with Sapim CX spokes, the whole set is about 1200g, they're 24/18 I think could be 20/18.
Problem is when i'm out riding they make a lot of pinging noises, spoke tension feels good by hand. I've tried putting a touch of light lube on the joins but this doesnt seem to make much difference.
Now i'm no featherweight but i'm also not a porker (163lbs) I have cheap Shimano RS10 with similar low spoke count and ride those everyday with no problems at all.
My questions then are, is it normal for new handbuilt wheels to make some bedding in noises?
if so how long would you expect before the settle down?
Should I take these back to the builder to check the tension?

Your wheels allow for a lot of lateral torsion, given the rim/spoke and hole combinations... it could be the noise is due to the spokes, which is unusual in properly built wheels (meaning appropriately). Tension could be low too, it is difficult to say in the case of CX Ray... yes, get them checkedleft the forum March 20230

Yes, have the builder inspect them if that is convenient. Or at least talk to the builder about that rim & spoke count & your weight & riding style/conditions combination.
Did the builder say the wheels were good for general daily riding & training?

ugo pretty much confirmed what I knew and as for the builder he did tell me these wheels should only be used on buttery smooth roads or the track, so not UK which again I knew and in fact I bought these with riding in the Alps in mind, but the continued pinging isnt right and by the time I arrange at the Marmotte next month i'll be in the 155-160lbs weight which is well within the range for these.
I'm thinking my tune copied hubs might be somewhat to blame ...perhapsRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

normally only ping within first few mins the first time they are ridden0

I've built myself a similar set up with Stan's 340 rims Novatec hubs and record spokes, which I'm running with Schwalbe Ultremo tubeless tyres. I've been a bit more conservative on the spoke count 20/28, even though I'm under 150 lbs. What I did notice was that after I fitted and inflated the tubeless tyres, there was a noticable fall inthe spoke tension, especially on the non-drive side of the rear wheel. First ride out on them there was a lot of pinging for the first 5 minutes. The wheel didn't go out of true by much, but I re-tensioned them, with the inflated tyre on as I didn't fancy riding around on what felt like cold cooked spaghetti.
Very pleased with them otherwise, after a couple of hundred miles I'm a tubeless convert.0
