Hi everybody, I have decided to get a bike through the cycle to work scheme and my local bike shop stocks Merida Speeder hybrids. I haven't been even on a bike for a bout 15 years since I was a teenager so I have absolutely no clue. I will use my bike mainly for an 8 mile fairly flat commute to work and back but will also use around park and river paths. My problem is have no idea what the difference is between these bikes and how much to spend. Any advice would be grateful, I want to go for one between the Speeder T1 and TD-3 but not sure which???

Both will do the job nicely - the TD3 getting disc brakes which will be more powerful than the rim brakes on the T1, and will hold up better in the wet. Other parts are slightly better too, but to be frank, they both aren't the best examples of this type of bike for the money.

    Any other stores nearby?

Thanks Supersonic, what do you recommend for 500-600 quid?

Do I even need to spend that money for a 16 mile round trip every day? Like I say, I haven't a clue! :-)

Anything from decathlon or halfords ;-)

BTwin Fit series, or Boardman Hybrid. Both are lightweight and very good value.

If they do the scheme you are in of course.

EDIT: £380 gets you a bike that is easily good enough!

Carbon fork, great gear set, and 10.2kg weight makes it the best value bike under £500 by far. To put in perspective, is around the same weight as my Zaskar, with an rrp of £4000!

I've got an S1 for commuting, can't say I've had any problems with it either, well built imo.
