I've never managed to take one of mine in, mainly due to work, if they don't mind it being a little overdue then it's free so probably worth it but it's also worth learning how to do things yourself if you don't already know.

I'd take it anyway, just so that if there are issues down the line they can't blame it on you not bringing it in.

I can't foresee what situation this would be, but I'd take it in anyway.

Personally I'd not bother. If halfords are the same as Evans then not taking it in wouldn't effect the warranty. All that will happen by taking it in is a bike that currently works will be fiddled with and you'll lose the use of it. Too many times people I ride with have taken their bikes to various place for a service and they get back a bike with poorly tuned gears.
    Current bikes:
Norco Sight 3 SE (on order)
    Specialized Allez 2010

    Old bikes:
Commencal META 55 custom build (Stolen :( )
    Boardman HT Comp 2010
    GT Avalance 1.0 2006(ish)

Like anywhere, it depends whether it has good staff or not! But all they'll check is gears/brakes/cables/bolts really so depends whether you can do it yourself or not.

If you are on the mobile phone network o2, currently in their priority moments offers is a free bike service if you book in advance.
You can also get a free puncture repair kit. A few weeks ago I got a free can of GT85 and a travel lock aswell.
I wouldnt let Halfords touch my bike though. Get yourself on the Park Tools website and give your bike a good check over yourself.

i would have to agree about halfords staff, took my boardman bike back to have a warranty claim, a new pedal, and watched in horror as the so called boardman mechanic done the pedal up with a 18" extension bar and gouged a big chunk of my crank arm off, needless to say i made sure the manager gave me a replacement crank arm, that mechanic was supposed to have been a boardman bike specialist, i wouldnt have let him loose on a mecano set. no doubt some stores have great mechanics in but its a lottery, the only reason i let them near my bike in the first place was because i thought what could go wrong in fitting a new pedal on, its a shame cause halfords is a good shop its just that they dont train their staff to very high standards
