Goodness, have you had to sell a kidney or two? Is it a touring bike (looks more like a racer) only what's with the very ample gearing?

    Nice bike :-)

The ample gearing is to make up from some ample excess baggage.... I'm 115kgs ..... my other bike, gives me 50/34 with 11/28 i can get up most hills and this is more than fine for commute, but on anything steeper than 7% I'm stamping on the pedals rather than spinning and losing any rhythm as a result. This bike is for long days in the sun a sportive / leisure bike rather than racer or tourer. The geometry has to be quite relaxed, as anything too low and stretched out would mean my belly hits my knees which isn't good for flat out speed. My weight is also reason I went ti and not carbon as I'm over the limit for most carbon frames and very close on others.

I wanted a lower gear than 34/28 but didn't want to lose 50/11 either at the other end. Looked at all kinds of options including running 50/34 with 11/32 including doing this with modified ultegra di2 rear mech, but in the end the triple won the day so it's 52/39/30 with 11/28, which has added bonus of 52/11 for the fast downhill bits. I may change yet if i lose some more weihtit but for now it seems like best option, likewise I may loose the spacers if the weight drops off.

If anyone asks me about Triples - what he said. (actually almost exactly the same reasons!) I happen to have the exact same gearing the Madone. I figure it's like having a road set with a bail out ring for the worst hills.

    Lovely looking bike Sketch congrats.

I have one gripe! IMHO Ultegra just looks a bit out of place on steel/ti bikes. Campag would work better aesthetically...

Trouble is I don't like the downshift buttons on Campag. It just doesn't work for me however good aesthetically it looks..... I take your point though, when time comes I *may* change the chainset
