Rockrider or Canyon?

I'm looking to replace my very old 2004 Rockhopper. I've also outgrew it, I'm 6ft1 and the rockhopper is only a 17" frame. Not ideal.
I'm riding mostly routes that require a hardtail and you do get more for your money with a hardtail. However I do love the look of the £800 full suspension rockrider 9.1 and it get's great reviews on Bike Radar.
I've been told to look at the Canyon AL 6.0. However I can't find any reviews on it at all.
So, It's sort of between the Rockrider 9.1, Rockrider 8.3 or the Canyon at the moment.
However, if anyone can recommend another bike that's better for the same money. I'm more than happy to take a look. I really like Giant bikes as I also have an old XTC1 and it's been super reliable with amazing brakes.
I kind of like the idea of 29" wheels. I'd never heard of these before I started looking at bikes again. I will be using the bike for commuting on flat roads too, so I feel these big wheels will give me a good bit more speed?
All suggestions welcome?

dont know anything about the canyons but i loved my Rockrider 9.1,i only paid 600quid for mine a few year ago and had it at Glentress,Inners so you could do a lot worse with the Rockrider,
looking at the spec on the canyon though,for the extra 300 quid it does give far better kit,Giant Reign 2

Cheers for the reply. I was afraid of that. Unfortunately it's out of stock at the moment and it wont be due for 2 months. I also don't like the idea of paying for it to be shipped from Germany and with any potential problems I might have either upon delivery or with warranty issues. It could be a total nightmare.
Where as with the rockrider, I could easily drive 25 miles to the shop and buy it. Same with any other brand of bike really.
I'm near Glasgow if that helps with anything.
Can you tell me what's so good about the Canyon at it's price range? Is there nothing that will beat it or come close for the same money?

Looks pretty similar to the Canyon on paper;
