Hi,

I am getting into MTBing allot more nowadays and as well as cycling a few miles everyday i want to invest in a good all round bike! I will be doing road/paths in the week and trail/downhill in the lake district and delamere in the summer months...

I have narrowed down to these 2, please let me know what you guys think!...

GT Karakoram 1.0 2013 Mountain Bike - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/gt/ ... e-ec042823

or

GT Zaskar 9R Sport 2013 Mountain Bike - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/gt/ ... e-ec042824

Thanks!!! :D

The Rockrider 8.1 from Decathlon for £550 is a better specced bike than either.

You won't be doing Downhill on either of those, though you may ride down hills.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Interesting bike.. never seen one of these before. Made me think twice now - thanks for the heads up.

    Anymore opinions would be appreciated!

    Fun: Yeti SB66
Road: Litespeed C1, Cannondale Supersix Evo, Cervelo R5
    Trainer: Bianchi via Nirone
Hack: GT hardtail with Schwalbe City Jets
  • Awesome! thanks...

I am undecided which bike to go for now obviously saving money is good but i want a bike to keep for years for road/trail/downhill... Can you guys recommend any more bikes up to £800 that fits this purpose?

Downhill is a specialist discipline, you can;'t ride it on anything you would do XC on, if you mean riding down hills that is parrt of a normal trail bike capabilities.....

The Rockrider is an XC bike, it is more than capable if riding trails but won't be as good at it as a more trail orientated bike.

For a £800 Trail bike get the best Boardman you're money will get you, the extra 20mm travel makes a big difference and the frame is a little more relaxed than the RR.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • I see. It looks like the Rockrider is the better option... do you think there is a big difference between 29" as opposed to 26" to fit the purposes above?
