I was wondering whether the k edge double chain catcher is meant for my front deralier? as the silver piece of metal is a different shape than where it is meant to fit onto.

I fitted one of these the other day and had the same problem with my mech clamp having a flat surface and the chain catcher having a curve one. I got around it by just carefully filing the curved edge of the silver part down until it was flat and then using a slightly longer bolt than the ones supplied.
    Seems to work fine.

If you look at images of a fitted Shimano front derailleur you'll see that the mount is curved.

By the looks of it you just need a flat washer.

I would not use a flat washer and just clamp straight on without the curved washer. Reason for this is if you check the mating surface it is serrated, these are to resist the pressure from the chain simply twisting the catcher across. I think a flat washer would not give the same grip on the washer to braze on surfaces. The serrations will leave marks on your braze on mount though.

If the surface you are fixing to is flat you could use a vibration washer. If I remember correctly a couple of Token chain catchers came with such washers.
    Vibration washer - see here...

    the curved spacer is optional

if the front mounting face on the fd clamp is flat, you just mount the k edge direct with no spacer

hmmm :P , thanks for the advice guys :D, idk what option is the best. Might just bolt it on without the silver bit but it may move :L or filing it seems the best option imo.

It wont move if tight, there's hardly any pressure from the chain, all it does is deflect the chain back onto the rings.

I fitted mine without the spacer. It has never moved.

It blocks the chain before it gets a chance to come off, so the lateral load is very light.
