Isle of Wight Ferry Sportive (Saturday)

I know if might be worth asking a bit closer to the time, but just had a weekend freed up and a friend is doing this on the Saturday but it's now sold out.

Anyone book this and can't make it?

Again probably best closer to the time, but would happily take the place for full face value.

Worth a shot.

Cheers.

If you are doing it (or know anyone who is) make sure they have a good set of wheels (by that I mean strong and well built with a high spoke count) as the roads on the Island are shockingly bad.

Why bother paying for this when you can simply take your bike on the ferry from Pompey, Southampton or Lymington.
The round the island route is well signposted and you can either do it clockwise or anti. Go to:-
    www.cycleisland.co.uk
    print off the route maps.

Do agree, you need good wheels and bullet proof tyres. There is a section on the round island route that is on an old disused rail track, so very lumpy and stoney.

You can easily avoid that bit of track though. Just turn right and follow the road round. Might be a tiny bit longer, and indeed the roads round that way aren't that great either, but it's an alternative. Probably the only nice bit of the route (road wise) is along the military road. Climbing up past the golf course and then along to Blackgang is nice. Smashing views too.

I did the round the island & didn't find the roads awful. But perhaps that's because I usually ride in Surrey.
