So, having been wondering for a long time how easiest to learn & get better at jumps I found I had a pump track just a few hundred metres from my house. http://www.ibikeride.com/mountain-bike-trails/videos/m:4T99C/
Can ride my mtb around http://www.evanscycles.com/products/pinnacle/peak-40-2010-mountain-bike-ec021912 but it's quite a tight/technical course and so not ideal. I've used someone elses bmx and it was much more fun.
Having enjoyed this I'm now tempted to head a few miles futhers and try the lordship park dirt track http://www.thetrax.co.uk/Bike-Park/Future/lordship-loop.html which appears to be a lot more flowing.
I'm trying to work out what bike would then be suitable or acceptable for both and might be fun to take on a trail. I'm tending towards a dirt jump bike and saw these http://www.specializedconceptstore.co.u ... Street%201 & http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=95398
So, questions are: -
Is it worth me getting a new bike, or should I just stick with my mtb?
If it's worth me getting a new bike for these, would those bikes above be okay, or are there others of similar price that are better value?

Thanks.

Shorter stem, wider bars, low tread rounder tyres, grippy pedals. Do all these things and your MTB will be more of a pump track ready beast... and probably be more fun generally :)

Or get a decent used bike that is suited and add those bits, GT Chucker on Scott Voltage YZ are both great budget options....

    Think that's a fair price?

I bought my haro jump bike second hand for £50. Don't use it that often but for £50 who cares? :)

I had this same thought a while back. My 21 inch Rockhopper just isn't as chuckable as I'd like (amazingly for a 21 inch frame right?) and there's a couple of new pump and BMX tracks around me. Saw a brand new Scott Voltage pop up on Gumtree for half the retail price and went for it. My riding is coming on leaps and bounds, literally, although I would say learning to jump on a pump track made up of doubles is a sure way to eat a lot of dirt when you inevitably fall short, but smashing berms (and jumping over the top of them) is an absolute riot.
