Bent Derailleur Replacement

Hi all,
First off all I would like to apologise if this thread should be in the MTB Buying Advice section but I'm also a beginner so I thought I'd get more relevant help here.
My problem is that I've inherited an old bike (my first bike though) from my elder brother (an 18-speed Raleigh T-Bolt, nothing special :P ) which had a forever skipping chain. I already replaced the freewheel (to a Shimano MF-TZ20) which actually had broken teeth and subsequently replaced the chain too.
After doing some research and finding out about the limit screws and barrel adjuster, I played around with the settings to try and get smooth gear changes, I've got most of them sorted except that I cannot get back down to gear 1 on the rear wheel no matter what gear is engaged at the front. When I manually put the chain into the 1st gear it just rides horribly and also the derailleur hits my wheel spokes (adjusting the limit screws stops this but then the chain misaligns itself).
I compared my derailleur to my friend's as he has the same one and it seems as if mine is bent and that's why 1st gear doesn't align. Is there any more that I can do for it without replacing it or should I just change it?
My derailleur is a Shimano RD-TY18 and I cannot seem to find an affordable replacement of the same model on UK sites, I'm not going to pay the shipping fees if I purchase from american stores so what is a suitable replacement? Would the Shimano Tourney RD-TX35 work fine or not?
Another quickfire question, am I ok to replace the SRAM gripshifter gear shifters (mine are very stiff) to the Shimano Revoshift models? (I'd prefer brand continuity, its affordable too).
Thanks for bearing with such a long first post, I appreciate any help.
Anil

Wttf. If your bike has a removable derailleur hanger then that will be bent rather than the mech itself. Pics would be useful.
If the SRAM shifters are stiff it will probably be down to the cables rather than the shifters themselves, they will need cleaning or replacing. Although replacing cables on grip shifters can be a pita.0 -
+1, it's almost certainly the mech hanger that's bent rather than the mech! Common problem with well-used mountain bikes, and it would tend to give you the symptoms you describe. Most are replaceable.0

Quick google confirms, new mech needed as that is an all in one with no hanger, and a 'claw' attachment. So new one with the correct attachment0

shimano tech docs show spares?

Although a replacement is hardly dear.0 -
ebay uk or amazon uk !! £7-8 with free postage :roll:0

I've looked at amazon and ebay and I can only find US sellers
Here are some images, I don't know if they'll suffice...

There is no hanger for the derailleur as its a direct bolt on version. If I knew where to find the spares and which spares, then I would go ahead and get them but I think it will be cheaper to get a Tourney Rd-TX35 (direct bolt-on version) but I'm not sure if it would be compatible.0 -
Looks like it's the frame thats bent. Unbolt and try and straighten.Planet X Kaffenback 2
Giant Trance X2
Genesis High Latitude 2x10
Planet X n2a
Genesis Core 200 -
Yeah, pic 4 shows it is the frame that's bent. Do as ^ says0

Thanks for the ebay Profisheruk link but I'd need the direct bolt on version rather than the hanger version.
I'll unbolt when i get home and check out the frame, cheers0 -

You're a life-saver Profisheruk! I think I'm useless at online searches. I definitely need that now because the back of my bike now looks like...

The screw for the gear cable is mangled too, should I just cut it?

I decided to go for a little ride when I got home instead of check if the frame was bent (which doesn't seem to be bent, my friend has a similar angle on his frame) and I tried to go into 1st, the cage got caught in the spokes and voila, the damage was done.0 -
From the earlier pics the fame is definitely bent.0

you're probably right, I'll see how the new derailleur fits and how much bend the frame needs. I'm a bit worried that it'll happen again though. I think i may as well start saving up for a new bike.
thanks for the help!0 -
Sorry for the bump but I thought I'd just post an update.
I straightened the frame to a suitable angle and had the new derailleur (thanks Profisheruk) in place but the bolt just wouldn't tighten (old and new bolt) so I can only assume the thread in the frame has gone. I even tried PTFE tape but it just got torn to shreds. Time to throw away the frame I think, I couldn't salvage it without spending too much money, thanks for the help anyway0
