Continental Mountain King 2 on rear

Does anyone run one of these on the back, but the wrong way round? Just put the tyre on, then realised I had mounted it the wrong way. It was such a pain to mount on my crests, I don't really want to take it back off.

Tyres are directional for a reason, so if it were me I would change it.

In this case, the knobbles on MK2s run in one direction. I would change them.
(Whereas the knobble pattern on something like a Racing Ralph have the same tread pattern whether they run backwards or forwards - meaning I wouldn't bother changing them if they were on the wrong way)

What are you going to do if you get a puncture? Sounds like you could do with a bit of practice taking the tyre off and putting it back on.

Punctures out and about are fine, just takes me a bit longer than others. Some tyres go on easier than others. The way the crest rims are design just makes it a little more of a pain.

OK, I'd still put it on the correct way. How long is it going to take, half an hour tops.

Did you actually ride the bike with the tyre the wrong way? I'd be interested to know if you noticed any difference.

  • I've done it once on an old set of Specialized tyres. I didn't notice anything until it rained.
I got a line of spray down the middle of my face for the entire 12 mile trip. :x
(Which is why I now check the tyre rotation)

if he put the tyre on the wrong way then rode backwards it would be on the right way really

Can spray up into your face, hence the popularity of Mucky Nutz/Neoguards, but I can't see that the direction of the tyre would make any difference.

Guess you've got the UST version. My UST Schwalbe tyres were a pig to get on my ArchEX rims but my Black Chili MK2 (on the rear, the right way 'round) goes on and off without levers.
