I currently own a cheap £50 asda bike which is full of problems and have been looking at the Carrera vengeance for £299 at halfords with a £20 off when you spend more than £200 online so overall price is £279.
are these bikes any good? are they reliable just silly question really as im limited to money which isnt a bad price for me.

The Vengeance isn't a bad bike (its not a £450 one though - not by any stretch), but it lacks a damped fork and hydraulic brakes, both of which you'll find in the Vulcan and Voodoo Bantu for not much more money, while they are dearer, if you can stretch the extra they are much much better bikes.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

I'd not bother, an undamped fork is a nightmare and doesn't make a ride very enjoyable. Same for hydro brakes, make th experience so much better. Keep saving!
