What is this thing called?

I need to know what the small spacer thing is called that you turn to adjust the tension in the gear cable. My shifters are combined with the brake levers similar to the above picture, and the item I need to replace is very similar to the black adjustment. I have an old bike that I'd like to practice maintenance on by rebuilding it. One thing that I need is to replace a missing adjustment spacer. I don't know what it's called, and have not been able to see if I can purchase a new one.

Could someone please tell me what this is called?

I think you're referring to the barrel adjuster

You should be able to find the part you want, including catalogue part number

If it is the barrel adjuster, highly likely one from another model Shimano will fit
