The Ineffable Pointlessness of Speeding

About 6ish yesterday, was tootling along the M62 between J26 and 27 at the max limit of 50 in my N reg Escort, with most people only a mile or two above the limit, when a white Nissan GT-R (i think) (MK60 X?T)came bombing past at about 70/maybe more and turned off on the M621 (J27), well ahead of us.

As I came up to the lights at the turn off to Morley/Gildersome (about a mile later), what should we see there but the Nissan :). Lights change and he accelerates like mad up for about 50 yards, to the next lights at the A650 - at red. I run up alongside him :D .

He sets off like crazy and about 80 yards further on, we come up behind him  :

Lights change and acceler...etc. Next lights at A643 (about a mile on) ... guess :P .

Lights change, etc., etc. Mile up road at lights at B6123 T junction ... Yep, you guessed it  .

He's turning right. I was going straight on and my lights were at green 8) .

Nissan hare and Escort tortoise. Oh, joy. My old heart rejoices.

Did I mention that I stick to speed limits?

Speeding isn't pointless. Just ask Chris Huhne's missus :)

Oh yeah, my wife used to work on Channel 5 Car Show, and back in about 2002 she snaffled a Nissan GTR for the weekend (no.plate GTR 1)!!

I took it out for a spin in Cornwall with her brother at night; came onto a straight and decided to test the 0 - 100mph, which it dispatched in a few seconds - amazing car. Then noticed blue lights in rear view mirror......turned off main road with heart thumping, but cops followed me.

They pulled us over and asked what speed we were doing and I said I wasn't sure. Then they clocked it was one of only 3 GTR's in the country and asked to look under the bonnet where we discussed twin turbos, etc. etc. me crapping myself that I was going to spend the night in the nick.

Then they told me to drive straight home very slowly, and they left it at that - close one!

As for speeding, yep, it's pointless these days, do it on a track, makes far more sense.

By no stretch of the imagination has Mrs Huhne ever been described as a cracker.

    No, fortunately not.

Mine was in production, i.e. behind the cameras!
