Texting while riding

So, back from my Sunday morning ride and felt the need to post this.

Was on the homeward leg of a usual route, quite a fast stretch of road, but early this morning so not much traffic about. Cruising at 16mph enjoying the sunshine. A fellow roadie joined the same road that I was on, and tagged along behind me for a few hundred metres.
He then passed me, with a cheery Hello, one hand on the bars one hand texting on his mobile phone.
After he was past, he then went no handed and carried ob texting using both thumbs!

So, is this normal? Or was he just showing off or just a prat??!

Meh, I've done it. No one else was around though, why stop if you don't have to?

Seems like another good excuse for angry drivers to shout at us for... Dont text and drive, Dont ride and text. I can hear the abuse already...

Why text if you don't have to? When you ride your bike, you are riding your bike, not doing anything else.

If you get an android phone and the app tasker you can have it automatically send a text when you get within a certain distance of your house :-) I can text no handed!!

He was actually texting: "Hi. I'm out enjoying a great ride. I'm just about to pass a right looking prat on his bike, so I'm going to deliberately wind him up by overtaking him whilst I ride no hands and text you at the same time. It wouldn't surprise me if when he gets home he goes straight onto the Bike Radar forum to voice his disapproval. He looks the sort ". :D

I don't remember sitting on anyone's wheel before I passed them, so you can't mean me. The rest of the description sounds like me today though. Don't want to ruin the average by stopping to text (route updates, they weren't up when I left the house  )

I was sweating like a rapist struggling to climb the col de Port when I was overtaken by a lad texting on his way up. looking as cool as anything. To make it worse he was using a 39/23 combination.

    My usual text is:
"Home in 10mins. Can wait 'til I get your pants off. They are ruining the look of my bib shorts."

Dont know where you lot ride. My routes have about 50m where you could ride no handed, the rest of the road appears to have been bombed by someone.

I can barely walk and text at the same time, let alone ride a sodding bike and text.

Think the OP is envious of the other riders multi tasking skills.

That would make a good GCSE math question.
