To be clear, are you converting to single speed or 1x9/10? Assuming you mean single speed.....
Zee is a bit heavy duty for a Vulcan, why not get Deore, sell the rings and get an SS ring?
You'll need an SS kit for the freehub and a chain tensioner.

Depends how nice you want it to look.

    Cheap way:
A load of spacers from an old cassette
    A sprocket from a cassette
A rear mech to use as a tensioner

    More expensive way:
A singlespeed conversion kit for the rear
    A singlespeed specific sprocket
    A cheapo chain tensioner

    Even more expensive way:
A flip flop rear wheel with sprockets
    A less cheap chain tensioner

You can use ZEE, just not the best choice as they are heavy duty, you can use any chainset at all (even your existing one), but ideally any with removeable rings (such as a triple) and replace the rings with a single, so square taper, powerspline, ISIS, Octalink or external bearing. If you are going to buy new, I'd suggest Deore HT2, then sell the rings and bolts (as new) and get a single specific ring and bolts.

Or just leave the front mech on and limit it - it is a chain guide.
But I am confused - 8, 9 or 10? What cassette/shifters etc do you have?
