Hybrid bike choice

Hi,
I've decided after about 20 years out of the saddle to buy a bike, mainly for commuting to work but also for leisure and getting fitter. The route to work is partly on tarmac roads and partly across a common with grass and gravel & mud paths. I'll also use the bike for leisure on the common and on canal tow paths, etc. I have therefore decided that a hybrid bike is the best option and with a maximum budget of £300 would like opinions on the following options:
a) Carrera Crossfire 1 Hybrid 2011/2012 @ £249.99 from Halfords
b) Carrera Crossfire 2 Hybrid 2011/2012 @ £299.99 (reduced from £449.99) from Halfords
c) Trek T10 2011@ £224.99 (reduced from £324.99) from Evans
d) Mongoose Crossway 150 2012 @ £229.99 (reduced from £299.99) from Evans
The above are from Halfords and Evans as I'm going to use the cycle to work scheme though my company to purchase the bike.
I've dismissed the Apollo bikes that Halfords sell as the guys in Halfords advised against them due to reliability issues. I also tried the Carrera Subway but found the inclined riding position uncomfortable - probably due to my age!
Thank you
