Yesterday I went and collected my new frame im really pleased with it, was like being a kid at christmas .i will be building it up over the next week or so just waiting on a couple of parts , alot of parts are coming from my giant reign build but ive replaced some bits as im going from 2x9 to 2x10.

so far Ive helitaped the frame and fitted the hope headset, 150mm rockshox revelations , raceface atlas stem, answer protaper bars, hope bottom bracket , E13 trs duel chainguide, sram x7 direct mount front mech and slx double crank on which I removed the bashring and fitted shorter blackspire chainring bolts.

Here are some pics I think its coming together really nicely (I will update the thread throughout the build)

Good to see another Spitfire. I've had mine for a couple of month now and I really like it. Watch that low bottom bracket though. My pedals have got very friendly with a few rocks!

Very smart, looking forward to the final build. Not sure how far you'll get with the spanner in the last photo though...

No put the sandle has a grippy sole for the flats....

It's going to look awesome and should ride just as well!

Thanks for all the comments there appreciated  this is my first full build from frame up so far im really pleased with how its going 8)

It has got a half bash connected to the e thirteen trs chain guide but it sits behind the chain rings and just petrudes underneath to stop strikes and it is a double.I did have a full bash on the crankset but I decided to ditch it :D

Ive got all the parts now so let the building comence. This is how it sits as of this afternoon maybe I will get it finished tonight

BUT - on the way to work, the ignomy, the shame, how will the bike put up with this treatment. (Google "The ship that died of shame" if you wish!)

How much clearance have you got between the bottom roller of the bash and the chainstay? My chain runs really close to the chainstay when in the bottom cog. Also, have you got a long cage derailleur?

I just checked and I have about 6mm clearance in lowest gear from the top of chain as it goes over the roller to the bottom of the chainstay .I have cable tied a piece of rubber on to protect the frame and have a chainstay protector so seems fine about the same as I had on my giant with a stinger. The derailleur is a long cage

Cheers. I think because mine is a medium cage its a bit closer. I went ghetto style and wrapped an old inner tube around the stay though.

Do you think you will be tempted to go 650b?

Im not sure about going 650b but its nice to have that option if i want it.

i Made a few changes to the bike since I built it , fitted a set of race face atlas kash money bars cut to 750mm as I wanted a wider bar with a slightly higher rise than the answers I had ,also raceface grips and changed the pedals to black nukeproofs as the gold pedals didnt look right with the new bars..

Here are a few pics .indoor shots unfortunately but hopefully will get some better ones on my next ride

look at Freeborn cycles as they are/were the importer.

Banshee is not sold in the UK as Banshee but as Mythic as Halfords own the Banshee name on bikes.

  • Stif Cycles sell 'em up here (as Banshees). £1489 for Banshee frame with Fox Kashima, or £1575 with Cane Creek DB.

That was resolved a few years ago, been sold as Banshee for atleast 2 years now. Freeborn no longer sell them, plenty of places sell them now.

    Got my frame from

    http://www.bikeactive.com/

Rob was really helpfull and I got a great deal:) I paid £1240 including hope headset and two sets of dropouts with the fox ctd kashima. this was a special price though as it was the shop demo frame ,at the time he couldnt get anymore for a long while as all the frames were pre ordered.the frame had only been built up for 2 weeks though and didnt have a mark on it 8)

banshee are now distributed by ison distribution so are available when stock allows from alot of places although from what I gather there has been a waiting list for spitfires and runes as demand outstripped supply;:p

New colours should be on the boat now though there due in the next month or so
Nice ride how much did it set you back ?

I think in total its cost me about £2400 to build give or take a £100 or so .I did have a few parts already on my reign but I added there cost into the price, I brought the forks secondhand though and added new graphics if I had brought the forks new the price would of been higher.

Really loving this bike still its amazing

  • How you getting on with this now you're a few months in? Will be building a new bike in Jan and stuck between one of these and a Knolly Endorphin.

Also, what is it like to pedal? A lot of the stuff I ride has as much ups as downs but only do the hills to point back down :)

I love it mate . I use it for everything as its my only bike and it handles everything I throw at it fine. Since I got it ive not really looked at other frames as it just feels so right for me .

Its not bad going uphill but certainly not the fastest , really excells on the downs though and is nicely balanced in the air. the suspension system is well designed, really plush but doesnt bob about much at all even with the fox ctd set to desend , pedals better than my old giant reign did:) .its a great bike you wouldnt be disappointed with one it puts a smile on my face everytime I ride it

Knolly endorphins are very sexy to though:)
  • Latest change to my build is 1x10 using a 34t race face narrow wide chainring, 11-36 xt cassette and a shimano zee shadow + rear mech . Ive Saved 680gms in wieght over the old 2x10 with chain guide setup I had . Havent dropped the chain yet I was sceptical of running without a guide but so far so good:)
