Shoes, cleats and pedals

Hi all, relatively new to cycling, I am currently using sod cleats and pedals with a cheap pair of muddy fox shoes. The cleats are worn down badly (yellow parts all but come off) they still clip in fine and feel comfortable, now would it be worth changing the cleats or replace the cleats for a different type,
