Ultegra di2 - front derailleur rub

Afternoon all,

I'm absolutely delighted with my new Canyon Ultimate CF SLX, which arrived a couple of weeks ago.

However, I have one niggle with the Ultegra di2 and would be grateful for any advice/solutions.

Basically, I've adjusted the front derailleur using the two small 2mm screws so there's no chain rub at either end of the gear spectrum (i.e. small ring, big sprocket = fine, big ring, small sprocket = fine) but strangely I am getting chain rub on the front derailleur in two of the mid-range gears (4th and 5th biggest sprockets) when in the big ring.

Can anyone explain this? And is there anything I can do to sort it out? With one of the two "offending" gears, the rub seems to disappear if I nudge the front shifter, but with the other gear I just can't get rid of the rub.

It's only a small problem on an otherwise flawless system, but having dropped a lot of cash on this machine I'd like to get it all set up perfectly! And, annoyingly, these are two gears that I use quite a lot...

Thanks v much in advance for any advice.

Thomas

Ooh, I thought the electronic stuff was meant to be super accurate and self trimming  Have a look on Shimano Tech Docs for the relevant service instructions, they are normally quite helpful. Hope you get it sorted!
  • It's bizarre - it's just a couple of the mid-range gears that are causing chain rub...
  • Anyone know how to do a "factory reset" on the di2?

Try adjusting the FD low and high bolts (small chainring - large sprocket and large chainring - small sprocket respectively) to increase the distance from the chain, only slightly though. I had the same problem and found that doing this alleviated it.

There is no way to 'factory reset' the Di2, you can index it yourself but you have no reference point, or you can use the etube software on a PC and run the diagnostics check which will detect issues and guide you through a resolution.

I'm going to take the position that since you said "I've adjusted the front D...." that we MIGHT be talking about some sort of operator / installer error. Start over from the beginning.

Yup - make sure you've followed the instructions and make sure the front mech is both parallel and the correct height.

I set mine up a year ago and not touched it since.
