Hi all, I couldn't find a mention of it on here so thought i'd give it a mention:)

Manchester's clayton vale mtb trail network officially opened yesterday!
it was a great day out and the trails are amazing, they've even built a skills area with a pump track.

The trails span about 6 miles and range in difficulty, blue, red, black etc and its only a couple of miles from piccadilly train station.

Some decent pics and info here - http://claytonvaletrails.org/
and here - http://www.nationalcyclingcentre.com/p/mtb-trails-2

That said, I get my new bike this Saturday and will be going down there for the day to test it out come rain or shine if anybody fancies a meet??

I think I may have just found my new local trail. I live less than 5 mins from here and had no idea it existed. Luckily I'm off university all summer so will pretty much live here. :D.

Had a crack at this today. It's not half bad considering it's only a few minutes outside the city centre. I thought it'd be neutered, but it's a nice challenge.

It's a fun little trail. plenty of up n down to get you puffing. Nothing gnarly but quite flowy. Watch out for nettles and glass though. Also the way marking is atrocious, take a trail map from the velodrome.

I'm going to give this place a crack tomorrow, ride down, get a lap in, ride home. Anyone ridden it lately?

Nice little set of trails there. Took the 100mm Hardtail and it was spot on for there, although a dropper might have helped as it's a lot of up down up down as they have had to make the best use of the lack of real hills. I'll be heading back there, although maybe in spring as I haven't got that muddy on my bike for a while. Not boggy, just splatter.
  • Took my 7 yr old on Monday too. He absolutely loved it. 'Twas all I could do to keep him off the black. He rode it very sensibly and managed all the red routes far better than I did without having to get off and walk. What surprised me most was that he enjoyed it so much because he is currently a confirmed roadie! Taking kids that age, then I'd suggest that they are at least confident at riding because on several sections once you are committed, there is no getting off until you reach the end. Will be going again
