Elixir 3 - Piston problems - change or persist?

Hello,

My LBS has tried to stop my brakes from rubbing and is recommending to replace them completely. Should I buy a service kit and try to service them, or give them up as a bad job (He spent an hour trying to free up the piston)?

Thanks.

About 18 months. Front makes a ching-ching-ching noise with each revolution. Rear more constant light rubbing. Both wheels spin well - they don't stop quickly.

Not just a slightly warped disc?

Yes - I guess it could be the disc on the front. Annoyingly it's 185mm which would cost £40 to replace and would again limit me to Avid brakes.

Why limit yourself to Avid 185mm? I had the same size rotor at the front; I simply changed the rotor to a 180mm Superstar and bought a new 180mm adapter. Much cheaper (and quieter) than the Avid G3 clean sweep rotors.

True - if I stick with the Avid's and go for a new rotor that sounds like a good plan. Thanks.

Ching-ching-ching is a warped disc, I just fixed my Shimano's with a new disc (horrified at the state of the original, not just waped but dished by on avearge about 4mm as well!).

You need a new LBS if they were going to change the brakes for a warped disc, that is criminal.

    Ordered :-)

    1 x Disc Rotor - Helix Design = £14.99
    Size 180mm
    1 x Disc Brake Adaptor = £4.99
    Adaptor TYPE 7 - PM-PM F180 R180

(I think that's the adapter needed for my Fox Floats?)
