Hi all. Cleaning my Supersix to my horror I noticed the state of the rear GP4000s tyre with it split beneath the lettering. Now its only done 460miles in 8months and I run it at 100psi. Any ideas and is it safe to use still? Cheers.

No the brakes are perfectly on the rim.

the stitching in that seam seems to come away its a very common issue and it will just get worse the more you pull it

but the tyre should be good to ride its not gonna pop off the rim just yet

You could always send a photo to Continental; they'd be best placed to say whether it's failing or if it's just cosmetic. You'll probably get a new tyre out of them.

I have some ultra sports that are going the same way, so I have just looked at replacing. Doesn't look that bad but you can peel it over to expose the braids...

my Michelin Service Course 4 is starting to show signs like this on the side walls.

they are less than 4 months old covered about 1000 miles i think. Do they not last?

I've had this happen with several sets of Conti tyres. In each case I've kept an eye on it, but I've always worn the tyre out in some other way without having any issue with this area. Seems to mainly be a cosmetic issue, although I'm surprised they can't do something about it as it seems a bit of a manufacturing flaw.

I remember it being particularly noticeable with a set of GP4000S's I had, but I used them for thousands of miles until the tread finally started to peel off the carcass (on the crown of the tyre, not where these threads had come off).

Ok guys thanks very much for your replies. I'll just keep an eye on it but might email the pics to Continental to see if I can get a set of tyres out of them!
