Is this freehub dead?

I gave my hubs a service this afternoon and decided to give my freehub a degrease since it was feeling rather gritty. Followed the excellent Park Tools guide and after flushing it all out with solvent I noticed that the ring of bearings at the rear of the freehub are fairly loose.
There's about a 2-3mm gap in the ring of ball bearings here, does this mean that they're excessively worn?
And secondly, which lube do you guys use for sealed freehub bodies like these? I drowned it all in Shimano mineral oil (which I use regularly on my Mavic hubs), working it inside the freehub body and put it all together and it feels fantastic now! Is this going to last or should I consider using a more substantial lube? TIA

looks normal to me.
it is what gives the shimano hubs a slight wobble on the cassette. (a new one would look the same).
it gives clearance against each ball."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
