I need to reduce the length of a seatpost, and just wondered what gear I need to cut it down, and smooth off the edges, any advice appreciated.

The seatpost is a "All Terra Alloy Micro-Adjust, 30.9mm", and I want to drop the seat down to the frame, leaving the max possible length inside the frame.

Hacksaw and then a file to chamfer the end....

What sort of file? Assuming I could pick both up from a B&Q?

Yes. Sand paper will work too.

Cheers, thanks all. Seems easy enough, will pick up a hacksaw and sand paper.

Sandpaper is intended for wood and will be a bit rubbish. Emery paper will work, but a file is much easier.

Carefully stick a piece of masking tape around the seatpost at the point you want to cut. This makes it much easier to keep the saw straight and make the cut at right angles to the post.
