Pocket change

The other day my 12year-old daughter went to town with her friends, bought a few things at the shops and when she came home she found she had been given an old farthing, dated 1860, in change (instead of a penny). This got me to thinking: has anyone ever fond an older coin than that in pocket change?

This one had obviously been in circulation - it wasn't just out of a collection or anything.

Wow are you going to keep it?

    I've had a sixpence from 1915 pretending to be a 5p

Are you sure she didnt go through a timewarp

Oh yes, we're keeping it. It's not valuable but quite a fun thing to have found still circulating. My daughter has it in a special tin, feeling quite chuffed. When she told me the date on it I thought she must have mis-read, but no, there is was 1860, and with Queen Victoria on it

Had a few sixpences as 5ps, and used to love getting the old silver florins when they were ten pence coins, but nowt that old.

Because of this I just had a look through my old coins and have:
    Two Shillings 1947 - 1964
    Half Penny 1942
    Three Pence 1944 + 1953
One Penny 1896 to a more modern 1964
    50p from 60's & 90's
    10p from 60's & 70's
    5p from 68 - 88
    and a brown £10 note.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
