Voodoo Hoodoo / another sub 500 option?

Hello all,

So to start off, Hi. I'm 26, and haven't seriously ridden since I was 12? 13? So...rusty and out of touch.

I'm looking to get back into riding, but don't want to (and can't afford to) break the bank.

I've been looking around online and in some shops and have seen some pretty good stuff written and blogged about the Voodoo Hoodoo. Good frame - reasonable forks - hydraulic discs and all under £500.

Just having a google I noticed that Halfords (don't hate me) have got a 10% off promotion over the BH weekend. I can also get 5% cashback on quidco. Making the bike £424.99 or 427.99 depending on how clever Halfords / the sales advisor is.

Now - is this the best option for me at this price point?

I'm looking to do mostly trail riding / some downhill but like I said I haven't done this in a while so not sure how brave I am...yet.

I'd appreciate any advice people have for me.

Thanks in advance.

Sam.

It is not a downhill bike, not by a long stretch - if you want to hit stuff harder, save more and buy a bike that can cope.

For 425 though it is an excellent XC/trail bike.

Yeah maybe 'downhill' wasn't what I meant. Like I said I haven't ridden for a while - and I'm probably remembering being braver than I actually was. So anyway - a good starting point? I can't find much in the way of competition for the price. Very willing to be proved wrong though!. Cheers for the input SS!

The Voodoo is great value for Money, it's ideal for what you want and the frame is very strong, the frame is a bit heavy though, so for a long term upgrade bike it has slightly less potential than some other options (Carrera Fury for example), however by then you'll have replaced most the bike!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Cheers for the reply TB. I think the fury might just be out of my price range. I'm going to check the VH out tomorrow. :D

You won't be disappointed i have the bantu and i love it, handles trail centre tracks no problem. Some people say they are heavy but i have to keep pushing the front end down cos it lifts quite easy off road. (unless that's because of all the weight on the seat ie. me)
