Hi

After having "Issues" with a carbon frame I've decided to go down the Alloy route, Looking for a quality Alloy frame and preferably matching carbon forks. I've got up to £500 to spend (although cheaper than this would be a bonus), any recommendations ?

It will be used for Sunday group rides out at a pretty reasonable pace and the odd evening blast down country lanes.

Thanks

The Cannondale CAAD10 is pretty much the best aluminium frame you can buy. They’re renowned for a smoother and stiffer ride than many carbon frames – very light too. If you can find one - they retail for approx. £500
  • Westbrook have them for £549

I have a Canyon Ultimate AL..... Brilliant brilliant bike, highly recommend it, very quick and comfortable on long rides.

Slightly more expensive than you're budget, but carbon forks, headset & carbon seatpost for £690....

Hard to beat for value IMO, far far better than most "cheap" carbon framesets, Gilbert rode this frameset for some racing in 2010 when he won the Amstel Gold on it, I'm fairly sure no sub £1000 carbon frame has been ridden to victory by a pro rider, but don't take my word for that ;)

VanSummeren also won Paris-Roubaix on one in 2011. I quite fancy one as my 2nd bike.

Actually that might be complete bollocks as he was a garmin rider and I thought they always rode Cervelos.
  • Think it was Greipel and Gilbert who rode the Canyon AL in that race.

It was this thread that confused me
