Screeching when coasting fast downhill
Hello, firstly apologies if this is covered off in another topic. I'm not having much joy with the search box.
I'm having a problem with my Boardman Team road bike, it's just over a year old with about 3,000 miles on the clock. I recently changed out the cabling for a Jagwire set as there was a lot of friction in the brake and gear cables that were causing issues.
It might just be coincidence but since doing the cables whenever I'm descending fast the bike makes an extremely loud high pitched screeching sound - almost like the brakes are rubbing the tyres. When it happens I brake and back off on the speed and the noise goes away. It's very hard to pinpoint the location where it's coming from but i'm almost certain it's not the brakes as they've got good clearance. My only thoughts are that it could be the hubs on the wheels? I've not done any maintenance on them since getting the bike..
Thoughts?
Cheers
Glen

You don't have Mavic wheels do you? If so, Google Mavic death screech.0

Mavic Aksiums.
'Death screech' doesn't really fill me with joy! lol0 -
Thanks Keef, had a quick read. Sounds like that's the culprit.0

Thought it sounded familiar. Not to me personally; I'm on basic Shimano wheels, but I lurk on here a lot.
I get the impression it's a bit of a design flaw. Expecting a bit too much of a plastic spacer. I suppose the good news is it's fixable0 -
Fixable? That's not what i'm going to tell my wife... "yes dear, it's terminal. Oh these carbon wheels? they were on offer at £99"0

Good call!0
