Thanks all, that's given me some solid idea's I had thought about using a parasol base unit. We have one that is heavy as sin and big thick iron or steel. Much thicker than cables and chains I've seen and whilst it can be moved they won't want to try and drag it along with the bike.

I'll check the local motorbike stores for heavier chains as well
