Canyon or RADON?

Hello everyone I'm going to be treating myself (birthday present) to a new bike. I've not had one for over 15 years & can't believe how technical they've become.

I've narrowed my choices down to http://www.radon-bikes.de/xist4c/web/ZR ... 22276_.htm
Or http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes ... tml?b=3006

As I like both bikes (although the canyon is out of stock), & they seem to have similar parts could the experts on here tell me which one they'd pick.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

by out of stock, do you mean sold out, if its the size S your looking at, sold out means sold out, unlikely they will be any more, so that should narrow your choice to one

OK thanks for that, I did notice on the canyon site that it says to call the hotline so just assumed that you'd have to wait several weeks for a bike. I think I'll be ordering the Radon.

Does anyone here know if the brakes on the Radon come the right way round? As on the site it shows them the other way. If not is it relatively easy to do.

They don't but it's not a problem to swap hoses, although I seem to remember someone saying they do send them over UK style.

Most of the pics on Canyon's website show brakes the wrong way round too, but seems they know we Brits prefer them the right way round and do them that way for UK bikes.

I thought Radon was a washing powder, lol. Every day I come across yet another brand of MTB I've not seen before, they seem to be never ending.

I'm surprised more people don't have them - the spec is brilliant!

      Im currently torn between:
      http://www.canyon.com/_en/mountainbikes ... tml?b=3006
      and
      http://www.radon-bikes.de/xist4c/web/ZR ... 22276_.htm

I really want to buy from my LBS but nothing gets close to the spec.

That a question?! I love the look of the canyon, and if I was getting a 29er I'd probably pick that, but the radon is brilliant VFM and has nice brakes.

      Yes, it is a question.

I am not hearing good things about those Avid 1's

Certainly wouldn't be my pick of brakes - but I wouldn't choose avid though. The rest of the bike is stunning though IMO!

The brakes could decide this on their own - SLX on the radon get nothing but praise, Elixir 1s (well avid generally), er, don't. I had near top of the range elixirs on my Canyon and binned them (well, sold them :D ) within a couple of months.

What is wrong with avid elixirs then? Anything genuine, or just people finding a small niggle that gets amplified by the Internet.

There's nothing wrong with them. Just given the choice, there are better alternatives.

Looks like the Canyon will take a standard pannier. This might swing it for me since it means I can use it for shopping commuting and XC. Just dont like the 9 week waiting list and I will hate taking it to my LBS to get it fixed and they will all know thats another bike I didnt buy from them. Options from the shop are:

      http://www.specialized.com/gb/gb/bikes/ ... opperpro29

I think out of them the Giant is my fave.

Who cares if the bike you take in isn't one you purchased from them... Do you worry about taking a car in for service that you didn't buy from the garage?

They're good bikes, but compared to the radon/canyon they're spec isn't great and they're just too expensive.

I used to have a LBS that I could walk to and used to get brilliant service for repairs and advice but I never bought a bike from them. It closed down because it wasnt selling enough bikes so I do feel bad buying bikes online. However I agree that the Canyon is much better VFM and will be ordering when I can decide what size (even with a 9 week waiting list).

Well I've ordered my bike, I went for this as they had a sale on for 2 days. http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/a86728 ... 26&cr=GBP#

What do people do with phones when out? do you mount it in a cradle or carry it on your person.

Hope you enjoy it. I got the Canyon last week. After a few minor mods (wider bars, new saddle etc. - all. From my old bike), I love it. I swapped the avids for Deores (I also had them on the old bike) because I prefer the feel. The avids are fine and went onto the old bike which is now on commute and winter training duty. I would choose the shimano over the avids, but I wold not pay a huge amount for the choice.

As for the phone, it goes in a light waterproof bag and into the back pocket of my jersey.
