Should I get one?
I really what the orange frame (sad I know) but am concerned about the XC30 fork, should I get the S?
What else should i look at for <£1000?

What type of bike are you after?0

XC Peak district and trail centres is what I usually ride. Upgrading from a Giant XTC SE 2006.0
-
Not sure the Orange would be an upgrade over the Giant really!0
-
XTC was bottom of the range in 2006, I was just going to upgrade the fork (Rockshox J2) but I need to upgrade brakes etc as well, chain, cassete and rings are all worn. It was only £370 when new! Its done 2 Polaris and got me to work lots of days. Im just worried the XC30 fork is a bit "entry level".
Are 29ers here to stay is another question?0 -
At least for the next two weeksI don't do smileys.
There is no secret ingredient - Kung Fu Panda

They are here to stay - but you get much better value from 26ers in general.
The XC30 is 1 level above your J2.0 -
For example, for £750, if it fits:

Full SLX, Recon race, Crossride wheels - and about 24lbs to boot.0 -
18 or 19 Medium.
Its that fork that is putting me off.
Im considering buying the basic Clockwork then upgrading the fork.
What difference will I notice between a 29 and 26?0 -
You need to try them out to be sure. generally 29ers are more stable and roll over bumps better, but are heavier and tend to handle a little more slowly.
For £850 you don't get much at all with it. Seen better £400 bikes.0 -
What about the S? Its a lot more £1150?
I was looking at the Rockhoppers and its the same with them, unless you get the top model then the fork is entry level.
Bought my Missus a Talon 1 a couple of years ago and I hate that, it feels really short so dont fancy a Giant again.0 -
Buy a bigger one then ;-). Nobody is the same size in all frames.
The S is better of course, but you are still paying for the name and getting with the 29er value thing. £1150 buys you so much more form elsewhere.
For a 29er this is much better for less:

When I say "short" it dont mean not high enough I mean from saddle to stem, the seat is as far back as it will go but I still feel like I am too far forward.

Now you have my attention! That looks awesome. Reba fork.0 -
WIll that double chainring kill me?
Radons look similar.0 -
I have the Orange Clockwork.
Avid Elixir 7 brakes are rubbish, Rockshox fork is ok, im 6'4" and 20 stone so preload is set quite high until i lose weight and the lockout is good as you say you do some cycling to work. Everything else is great on it and im really happy with it as couldnt afford the clockwork S. Try it out if you can.
Ps i love the colour too!0
