Hi, i need a new 8 speed cassette for a build and i dont know whats the best to go for. After a bit of thinking there isnt anything in particular that i want from the cassette, nothing really in particular. So im quite lost on what to go for. The one thing i want to have is an 11 tooth smallest sprocket. But its not completely necessary.
This seems like the best one after a quick look.

One other question too, how would i know what chain to use with the cassette that i eventually choose? If its a "HG" cassette, would just any "HG" chain work?

Define 'best'
Some would say stronger, longer lasting - generally cheaper.
Some would say lighter - more expensive, wear quicker.
Any 8 speed chain works. IMHO cheap KMC are the best as they last longest. I also use cheap cassettes.I don't do smileys.

Hmm. If i were to be looking for something from a cassette it would be lightness. Ive never worn out a cassette (even though the shimano hyperglide one im using has been used for years on end) So strength isnt something im looking for.
So what would be the lightest option?
Thanks for the info.
Is the deore one i linked worth extra money over the Acera?0 -
Nope, not really at that level, cassettes are all a very similar weight until you start spending lots more. If you only need the higher gears then go for a road cassette which will be more compact and therefore lighter as there is less material0

That does make sense.
I want to have a MTB cassette still because i will be going offroad, i just want the final gear so i can just use the last gear to get to wherever im doing the offroading. Ive seen some with 13t smallest but id much prefer the 11t. So wont be ideal to have a road cassette.0 -
Do you actually need another cassette mate? If I were you I would save my money if your current cassette doesnt need changing0

My current cassette is non existent...lol. I have none.0
