My cassette ate my bungee!

So I had a bungee strapped from the bottom of one dog-leg on my rack, over the top and down to the other side (holding my supplementary cable for my u-lock). I'd thought that was a more user-friendly way of using the cord, after spending fifteen minutes mucking about on Friday wrapping a cord tightly around trying to secure my jacket after I took it off.

Suddenly I hear this sproing-spoing xylophone sound, pull over, and look down. One end (behind my pannier) is still secured to the rack. The other end really isn't... The hook was completely straightened out, and the elastic was wound several times around several of my sprockets, jamming up the derailleur and chain.

I could freewheel, but couldn't pedal. So after a few minutes trying to clear the elastic myself by the side of the road I admitted defeat and had to walk my bike down into town and beg an appointment from my LBS. Now sorted, but what a pain as a first-thing-Monday-morning commute!

There's no real point to this, I just wanted to share :-(

There's a reason no bike shop sells bungees :)
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

Cordn't have put it better myself.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
