Hello, my bottom bracket is making a lot of noise. I think its gone. I need to replace it. I have no idea which one to buy. I was looking at the Shimano Hollowtech 2 Bottom Bracket. http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/BBS ... __bsa_68mm
Or the SRAM GXP Team Bottom Bracket looks good: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-gxp-team-b ... ampaign=uk
which is the best? Or is there anything better?
How easy is it to replace the bottom bracket? What tools do I need? Or am i better of going to my local bike shop?
Oh i have this bike. the older version: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/CBP ... _road_bike
Thanks. Sharp910sh. Pardon my ignorance.

The BBs you mention aren't interchangeable between SRAM and Shimano chainsets so it depends which chainset you have. It is easy to replace with an external BB removal tool.Smarter than the average bear.0

Thanks, how do i know the type of bottom bracket I have?0

What do your cranks say on them ?Smarter than the average bear.0

It says Sram Apex.0

I am pretty sure Apex only comes in GXP flavour. A call to PX may help you.Boardman Elite SLR 9.2S
Boardman FS Pro0 -

In which case you need a GXP BB, and the removal tool http://www.wiggle.co.uk/park-tools-holl ... -arm-tool/ or a cheaper one, and some grease and allen keys. It's an easy job.Smarter than the average bear.0 -
So this is good enough: SRAM GXP Team Bottom Bracket Cup Set http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-gxp-team-b ... ampaign=uk
Nice. do you have a video of instructions, I have some grease.0 -
That's the one. Look at SRAM website, they have good instructions.Smarter than the average bear.0

Cheers, I assume I will need the "english" version.0 -
That's a reasonable assumption, yes.Smarter than the average bear.0

I have a problem here. I am trying to take off the crank arm so i can change the bottom bracket. I was able to remove the 8mm bolt. But that is all I can do, I have no idea on how to remove the crank arm. What to do?
Here is the bolt which i removed.
It seems like I need to push of the crank arm. I have tried to pull it off, but nothing. I have tried to hit the drive side with a hammer to push it off but nothing.0 -

Incidentally, hitting the drive side won't help from what I can see.0

Thanks. None of those videos are any good. I have removed the 8mm bolt. But the crank arm is still fixed to the crank, doesn't move, not a bit. Those videos show that just removing the 8mm bolt removes the crank arms. In my cases that doesn't occur.0 -
With the bolt removed, rocking the crank from the pedal-end should loosen it or ride the bike briefly with a few turns of the pedals. Once the LH crank has been removed, you may need to give the end of the spindle a firm tap with a mallet/block of wood to get it moving.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

So I successfully changed the bottom bracket. But it seems like it was fine in the first place. The creaking sound is still there. I cannot figure out what it is. It is coming from the drive chain I think, as the creaking sound only occurs when I pedal. I also removed and cleaned the cassette and tightened the chain rings. But the sound is still there. I do not know what to do.
I have attached a recording of the of the creaking when I cycle: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jci59mj1ucxwn42/Voice%20004_001.m4a
Thanks for the help0 -
Have you:
1. Taken off the pedals and copperslipped up the threads then tightenedit all back up properly;
2. Removed the chain rings, given everything a really good clean and copperslipped everything up;
3. Checked that your cleats aren't fukked; and
4. Checked the "common creaks, clanks and random noises" sticky for a possible solution?0 -

It turned out to be the bearings in the rear wheel.0
