Hi All,

I was hoping somebody could help me with a problem I have.

I've agreed to buy a van off a guy near Chester. The van currently has his private reg in there, which he is removing and putting the old reg back on.

I was hoping to travel straight from work on Thursday on the train to collect it, but the DVLA are saying it will take up to 7 days for the log book to be returned with the amended details.

Thursday was perfect for me. Is there anyway I could work this with the guy so that I could still pickup this week?

Cheers,
FJ

    is it a T5?

you may have issues due to it needing the documents changing and all paper work will be sent to the seller. TBH I would wait till it has all the correct and upto date papers. You also have the insurance problem. what reg to insure it on? you could use the VIN but....

    It is a T5, Nick.

Yes, I'm inclined to wait, but don't really want to!! :)

Was just easier to head up after work in London on Thursday, rather than having to possibly make the trip up from Cornwall.

You could always pick up the car with private plates still on and have an agreement with the seller to return the plates onces the paperwork is through. Basically you collect with private plate, do the transfer then return the physical private plates. The seller has to trust you to do this though.

the thing is lets say you take it. you have no documentation. and the V5 needs to be signed by both the old and new owners. and the seller will not have the V5 with the bit that you keep when you send it away for owner change.

so you have a van but no papers. I would give it a week.

You bought a van, that's where you went wrong. Is it also white?
