Elixir 5 issue

In order to get my brakes to work, I need to pull the lever to almost the bar. I'm out of reach adjustment and pad advancement does not improve things. I find if I pump the lever it's responsive and the brakes bite at a good point, but then it goes back to needing to pull to the bar. I'm guessing that I need to bleed but maybe there's something else up? Any clue?

They are Elixir 5s.
