Been thinking of a bike for the wife for a while now. The current deal at Halfords is nudging me to get on with it. I think I've narrowed it down to the following three. use is starting with light trails & family rides but hopefully progressing - also possibly one for my lad to grow into.

The Voodoo Bantu is tempting with best fork i think, but is a chunky 15.2kg which concerns me. Is there any obvious fat that could be trimmed? Can be had for £360 with the current offer.

The Kraken seems a more svelt 13.8kg. Don't think the fork is quite so good, can be had for £410 with current offer.

The RR 5.3 is imbetween at 14.4 kg. only has mechanical disc brakes though which could be a ball ache, but bargain £330.

Leaning towards the Kraken because of the weight, but Is there an obvious winner here? Can I cheaply get the Banyu weight down to the Kraken level? Depending on feedback I may order this afternoon as I'm well aware it's time to piss or get off the pot!

Your links don't seem to work or go to specific bikes, so it's not easy to say.

For anyone interested The Beginner gave me a helpful reply in another thread where I had duplicated the question (now edited)
The bantu's tyres are seriously heavy, probably about a 3/4Kg weight saving there.
The frame is heavier than the Kraken though, by about 250g at the same frame size.

Brakes on the Bantu are better but heavier....forks are better and only a little lighter, the stems are very light but the bars a bit heavy (about 350g). Different weighing standards could account for 600g of the difference!

The tyres are easily sorted - have a set of Nobby Nics I can put on. I'm wondering if the Fork & Brakes on the Bantu (& price) against the still slighty beefier weight make it a better bet than the Kraken?

I'd go for the Bantu and fit the new tyres.
