On Tuesday I had a puncture after 6.5 miles, I repaired it last night and today I had a puncture after 8.5 miles... is it likely to be a coincidence? Surely if there was something left in the tyre, it would have gone down before the 8.5 mile mark?

It’s been years and years since I last had one, then two in a row :(

Any chance that the tyre is worn?
That is usually an indicator for me.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

Assuming you checked the tyre, it's probably just a coincidence. I got a P the other week, I was so disgusted I stuck on a set of Marathon+, couple of days later I pulled a ruddy great lup of glass out of the tyre that normally would have been a puncture. Sometimes they seem to happen in wee bursts, none for ages, then a load in a row.
