Two bikes to choose from

No, this, it's a bit more road oriented but is fine on hard pack, gravel paths, grass, cobbles and urban decay with similar spec to the Crossrip Elite, if anything it feels more surefooted on off-road trails than my old Giant MTB did (both on 28mm).

I looked at boardmans and yes they are better specced for the money but I really can't stand their logo.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.

    How far is the commute, and how much off roading?

    The Secteur Disc will take guards, not sure about a conventional rack due to the location of the discs. The calipers need to be mounted inside the rear triangle for normal racks to fit properly, this is where many disc equipped bikes lose versatility, not the Trek. However, there are plenty of racks that mount to the seat post.
