Roco wc shock coil removal

Anybody have any experience in removing the coil from a marzocchi roco wc shock, I have the shock off the bike, backed off the preload and removed the retainer, however I can't get the spring over the rebound adjuster, does it need removing or is there some sort of special jedi mind trick that will lift the coil off

Google... Remove the rebound knob. It takes a small allen key inside the center of it.
