Any reason why this wouldn't be a good idea?

Any particular reason it would be a good idea?

Probably heavier than it needs to be. What width?

Width would be 710. Mostly want it for the rise. Weight is negligible, it's only a 300g bar.
Width is 785mm but can be taken down to 700.

Struggling to find anything else I like.

No reason not too really apart from the weight but with that extra weight usually comes extra strength. I run DH bars on all my bikes except my road bike obviously, mostly for the width but also for the strength.

What bar are you looking at?

yep should be fine. You have the obvious weight penalty but if that's the only one with the correct shape then go for it. For me the shape is more important than the weight.

It's only not much more than my current bar, bought a nice 200g xc one from wiggle as I bought some M596 aswell...
