Greetings!
Just a little advice. I m looking to buy a mountain bike having realised my 1998 kona lava dome is a death trap. I was looking to get a Whyte 629 as it claims to fit my requirements - I want a hardtail which can be thrashed a little going downhill as well as being able to scamper a little uphill. Unfortunately, my LBS does not carry a small in this model, and whyte won't be producing anymore this year. As a consequence my LBS have offered me a Trek X-caliber for the same price (999.00). Is this a good deal/spec for the price? And would it be useable for a little bit of the rough stuff? Here's the two bikes;

Whyte 629;

Thanks for your time,
Chris

The spec is consdierably better than the Whyte. However both are XC bikes, so depends on how rough the terrain is. Not DH bikes by a long way, but for the average rider will handle general trails and small drops and the like.0

Good deal on the trek too hes giving you £100 off normal cost and as ss said better spec far better fork etcThe family that rides together stays together !

Thanks for the replies so far. I can't find any reviews of the 2013 model. Has anybody used one? I've read that there have been some problems with previous years models frames cracking?0

The trek x caliber, incidentally, I'm referring to.0
