Greetings!

Just a little advice. I m looking to buy a mountain bike having realised my 1998 kona lava dome is a death trap. I was looking to get a Whyte 629 as it claims to fit my requirements - I want a hardtail which can be thrashed a little going downhill as well as being able to scamper a little uphill. Unfortunately, my LBS does not carry a small in this model, and whyte won't be producing anymore this year. As a consequence my LBS have offered me a Trek X-caliber for the same price (999.00). Is this a good deal/spec for the price? And would it be useable for a little bit of the rough stuff? Here's the two bikes;

Thanks for your time,
