SRAM twist shifters replacement

Hi all,
Just got a Marin Hidden Canyon second hand for happy eight year old. Was cheaper due to rear puncture and non-working front shifter. Former quickly resolved.
Front shifter seems to have broken in cable housing - its for a 2 speed. Thought it would be sub £20 to replace with new but struggling to find a replacement - anyone had the same issue? Is it just that the 3 speed works for both 2 and 3 speed just on the limit screw. THe design has changed a little so its not obious if its the same.
Alternative would be a 2 speed trigger which I probably favour for the little used front change but what fits (will I get problems with 1:1 plays 2:1) or is it OK if I replace Sram with Sram? Does the trigger shift foul the handlebars at all for little hands?
Never had the probelm with my own bike fiddling as always run same throughout (XT at the mo!).
Cheers

fronts swap freely. use a 3 position twist from Sram or Shimano. or a 3 pos trigger.
the newer two position are for the new ten on the back set ups and would work but cost more than you need to spend."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
