First ever Road event - Malvern Spring Classic

I did my first ever road event at the weekend in Malvern, I only did the short 50k as I felt at this point in time its probably as much as I can manage and after the event I think I was right to do that one.
The first set of hills that were only 3km into the run saw a MASSIVE climb up the mountain ( :) ) and I was left totally deflated, I took my first ever energy supplement which was a high5 product given to me at the start of the event and within 5-10 mins was feeling great and nicely recovered.
Anyway, at the end of the ride I felt I could have managed another 20k maybe but was happy with the 50k ride, I felt as though I had done well, I hit a max speed of 78kph (by far the quickest ive been) and has a run of 40kph+ for around 7km at the other side of the hills so was happy with that.
Ive just checked the times and it seems I posted the 4th fastest time of 2h 8m for the short run which has left me ecstatic
I cant wait for the next one and have signed up for the 100k later in the year.

p.s) only posted this as A) im very happy with the time and B) maybe this will stop the "stop posting and get on your bike brigade"
WooHoo!

Maybe you posted the 4th fastest time because all the decent riders were doing the longer distances

I bet you delight in telling 6 year olds that Santa does not exist too.

Your argument is flawed. You can only compare against the other participants of the same route. There will always be someone faster no matter what level you ride at. Of course an any given day that may be you, but it is equally likley to be someone else.

Well done Vtec and ignore the nay sayers.

Ohh, im in no doubt that is the truth, but I still did it and of the 38 doing the 50k I came 4th. At xmas I couldnt ride 5k and struggled to speak after 10 minutes on the bike yet now im getting faster, fitter and thinner so im over the moon. :)

No, it was the right point to make. The point being that all the decent riders were doing the longer distances and that's exactly where Vtech should have been - with the decent riders because that is what he is. It's just a case of getting a bit more self belief and this should help a great deal.

And well done to Vtech of course.

Hope that's given you the confidence to go ride with your mates on their runs. Good going :)

Well done, doesnt matter what the distance is, an achievement is an achievement. Thats the great thing about cycling - what you was once thought was beyond you becomes an enjoyable benchmark. Build on that on your weekly rides and you'll be hitting the 100k

Or alternatively, Vtech may have tried the 100k and failed to finish and would have felt like sh^t. I think the 50 was the right way to go; a confidence booster, got a good time, now can move up; Rome wasn't built in a day.....
