Nice... I have the same bike, but mine is called a Donnay Sport 2000. What happened to the original forks? Same frame but rebadged by the Bjorne Borg carbon racquet company... 1989/90s era of carbon.
They are right 'noodles' I.e they flex like hell... The bottom bracket wobbles about under you as you pedal! We are all spoilt modern by stiff monocoque carbon frames.
I love mine, it's like driving a 1960 vintage car, and wouldn't be without for the world. One to keep!
This model came with a quill stem right?
Lose the blue pedals... Mine had these in red http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=13079&_$ja=tsid:46412%7Ccgn:Pedals+Clipless+-+Road%7Ccn:Chain+Reaction-UK-PLA-PLA-Eng-DT-SE%7Ckw:112554UK_KEO+Classic+Road+Pedals but now on red speedplays0 -

1 - those stickers look awful
2 - "Alan" is not the name you would associate with a frame made in Italy (the Midlands, maybe)
3 - I absolutely love it. In the same way that I really really want a Giant Cadex, despite knowing that they are crap0 -
I built up a Alan Mercurial at Xmas in white with black/red Centaur. Now just fitted with some Velocity Deep V's in black. Looks ok, should really get some pics posted I guess0
