Tyre Cut - Advice needed

got a puncture yesterday, not sure of the cause but there is now a 5mm cut in my tyre right in the centre (so will make contact with the road). I am riding 50 - 100 miles in training for the Ride 100 at the minute.
The question is, can it be repaired? Should I worry? Should I buy a new tyre?
Thanks in advance!

does it bulge at the cut when inflated?
does the cut allow the inner tube to start pushing through?
if either/both occur, i'd bin the tyre - you could fit a tyre boot and keep using it, but personally i prefer to only do that as a get me home optionmy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Hi, that doesn't look too bad as cuts go, however I think if a cut is going to give you more serious problems it probably won't be when your doing 15mph on smooth flat, it's a bit more stressed when hitting bumps doing 30mph downhill. Get a new one mate, you're worth it.0

Let your tyre down, open pinch the tyre with your fingers to open the cut, bung in some Superglue, let it dry.
It'll do for a while."There are no hills, there is no wind, I feel no pain !"

Looks normal to me. I have three or four at present on the back tyre. As long as it doesn't effect the integrity of the tyre it is fine i.e. bulging or inner tube showing.0

with grippy compound race rubber this happens more frequently than you wish but if it didn't manage to get through your puncture belt or breaker you'll be fine. (if not you'll need to boot it with a small (glueless) patch until you're home and get yourself a new) But really, buying new tires every time something like this comes along would be an expensive way of spending your free time. The superglue remedy helps a little if the cut is really wide. I always keep a spare thicker tire like a durano for when the wet days when cuts like these are even more likely.0

When I get these go through I usually wrap a strip of toothpaste tube round the inner tube a couple of times in the affected area. Some have been on there for thousands of miles without causing a problem!- - - - - - - - - -

Thanks for all the advice. I might buy a new set and take this as a cheeky excuse to upgrade the stock tyres.
Thanks again.0 -

I haven't tried riding on a tyre with a proper hole in it for any length of time, but it would make me a bit nervous. I'd buy a new one. If it goes as you are doing 40mph down a hill, you are going to regret not replacing it. You probably aren't going to regret spending £30 on a tyre that much.0 -
New tyres already on order! Thanks for all the advice!0
