UK holiday ideas

Hi all

First of all, am I posting this in the right subforum? There didn't seem an obvious place for it.

I'm looking for suggestions on where to spend a week in August, with the following criteria:
-UK but within 3hrs of Manchester
-attractions nearby for young kids 2 and 4
-preferably within reach of beaches but not a must
-must be close to steep hills and preferably quiet, smoothish roads for early morning road rides
-good network of bridle paths / single track (not too technical) as will take the cross bike too
-i'll rule out the yorkshire dales as we've been plenty of times and also the Lakes as expect too busy in August

Was thinking one of Exmoor, North york moors or Cotswolds but open to other suggestions. Can anyone particulatrly recommend these areas? Does anyone have any suggestions of decent self catering family accomodation too (which must accepts dogs) ?

Thanks in advance!

South west scotland. A perfect option for you,. What would you be looking for accommodation wise?.
Pleasant drive up from Manchester, Ive done it many times.
Base yourself on the Colvend coast, i.e Kippford, Rockcliff, snandyhills in between Dalbeattie and Dumfries on the coast road. Quiet roads, 7 stanes mtb trail centres in abundance, quiet beaches and farm parks, chocolate factory etc around for the kids. If you go for this option get in touch I will recommend the places to entertain the kids.

Northumbria, great roads, hills and flat plains on the coast. Quiet roads. Amazing beaches and small seaside villages for the kids

    What else could you need
  • Thanks guys, both those areas sound great. First thoughts were they might be a bit flat for my road rides but i'll look further into them.

can anyone familiar with Exmoor let me know whether there are bridle paths / suitable terrain for cross bikes in that area?

    cheers

    this hilly enough? http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=3127.

or this one nearby http://www.bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=2886 the hills are steeper in reverse on that one. and you could do this http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=542628 which is all on tarmac, the last bit is a private road, but cycles are allowed you just go round the barrier
