This is about three question in one.

I have just brought a Tacx Booster Turbo Trainer. I also have a really nice new Carbon Cannondale SuperSix Evo. Will a turbo trainer wreck my carbon bike?

Should I be buying a cheap aluminum bike that i could use for winter training on the turbo trainer? If this is the case can anyone suggest some good cheap aluminum bikes to go for?

Thanks

Nah it wont affect a carbon bike. been using my carbon bike on mine for ages, with no effects to the bike.

Just don't over tighten it. Instead of buying a bike just for a turbo trainer, may as well buy an exercise bike

I was going to get a bike for winter training and to use on the turbo trainer. Not just the turbo.

I bought a cheap shimano wheel and trainer tyre which I just fit on when using the turbo, you'll probably wear road tyres out very quickly. Trainer tyre has been on for 8 months with loads of use and it still looks new.

I use a Vittoria Zaffiro Pro road tyre on my turbo and have no problems with wear what so ever.

Manufacturers sometimes have warranty clauses regarding turbo use.

In reality it is likely to be fine. I have used my CF bike on my turbo without issues.

I've just got a cheap rear wheel & trainer tyre for the turbo. Don't need a different bike

    The frame should be fine.
Invest in a fan and have some old towels around to protect/wipe down the bike. Similar to road salt, sweat can corrode and make ali parts furry if you leave it on the bike.

  • Posh bike on the turbo in the garage with a big fan on the dark crappy nights, cheap ali bike with mud guards for weekend rides, can't go wrong over winter :-)

As said above get a cheap rear wheel to use on the turbo and get a Vittoria Zaffiro tyre to use on it - they last forever.

I have no idea what's going on here.

Old wheel, old tyres and an old skewer....... plus, If you haven't got a conservatory build one and put your turbo in there, it's a known fact in the biking world that conservatories are built for that sole reason.
  • Nah integral garages were built for turbo usage. Garages are man caves, conservatories are for women. ;-)
