After snapping my 2012 zesty 514, lapierre sent me a 2013 914 frame and due too much enthusiasm i've bent the Mavic Crossride rear wheel beyond repair.
So im looking for a replacement (stronger) wheelset, obviously want it all.. cheap, strong and light.
Options so far....
Hope pro2 / mavic ex721
Superstar Tesla / Pacenti DL31
Spank Oozy's
but... open to suggestions ?

What axle standards do you need?0

15mm front 142x12 rear0

I'd go for the Superstar option. If you want to save a bit of money, Switch hubs and Flow rims.0
-
Happy to spend about £350, so i have a bit to play with. Just seems to be a lot of options at that price. Not too bothered about tubeless if that makes a difference.0
-
There also seems to be a lot of talk about Hopes/Flow Ex0
-
I'd take the Trizoid hubs over Hope. Even the Switch to honest.0

£350 will get you a custom set of Arch EX on Switch/Trizoid. Tough, stiff, light"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Spanl Oozy look nice, XT Trail are a good bet tooYT Wicked 160 ltd

I take it these are all much better options than the existing mavic crossrides i was running0

Yes, a bit tougher, a bit lighter.0

Although as Sonic says - Superstars £200 Flows/Switch Evo's are such a bargain, it's hard not to recommend them really"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

What about Tesla ?
Too may options !0 -
The Tesla are better made - superior bearings, faster pickup hub. But for 200 I'd take the Flow/Switch. Put some nice bearings in when they die.0
-
but you think the Trizoid are better than both ? and... last question honest the flow's would be my best bet for aggressive trail / light DH on my 150mm Zesty ?0
-
think i'll go for http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=601 with the flows.0

I just picked up my new wheels from the lbs.
Tesla hubs on flow ex rims. They looks amazing.
The Tesla freehub engages so quickly it's going to be great climbing.
They also feel so sharp on big turns. Stiff and snappy
Highly recommend. I opted to pay a slight premium and have my lbs build the wheels instead of superstar simply because i wanted dt spokes and the comfort of knowing they are being well built2011 Specialized Enduro Comp

do you think the Telsa is worth the extra £60 ?0 -

They're very tough and very stiff and pretty light...and have WC pedigree, so in a word, yes.

Good enough for the Dirt 100
Although as I said above, if you must spend the £350 I'd take the weight saving and go for the Arch EX on DH Trizoid.
I've got a set of each (Flows/Switch EVO's & Arch EX/Trizoid's) - The Arch EX are plenty tough enough for me (and weigh nothing) and I'm smashing a 7 year old hardtail down Alps about 5 times per week"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Nice....Lucky you ! what do you do for a living ?
Anyway... Tesla's look like a good compromise between the Trizoid and Switch. And Flows will be stronger than Archs while still being lighter then my Crossrides. How heavy are you ? The most extreme i'd be going is 4-5 foot drops to relativity flat, I'm about 85kg.0 -

Seems a bit of a false economy if you ask me. i.e spending £350 on the Flows with Telsa hubs when Telsa hubs would only cost £50 extra (over Switch EVO's) on a custom build.
But with the £200 Flow/Switch EVO deal - you'll kinda be paying £150 extra...if you know what I mean"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Yeah... the £200 does seem like a good deal.
Custom CX Ray / Tesla / Flows are a bit more than the prebuild wheelset though
